John Betjeman apparently reserves his best for Ffos Las but escapes a penalty for his latest victory there. Sambezi has only won at Fontwell so far and both of REWIRED’s victories this season have come at Huntingdon. But this track is similar in nature and Luke Scott clearly gets on well with Richard Newland’s five-year-old. Universal Secret only won a maiden here last month and Western General is still seeking a first victory, though his latest second at Taunton has been franked and he remains unexposed.
Rewired 6-4fav (11-13) Close up, chased leaders after 2nd, led before 3 out, pushed along and faced challenge before 2 out, ridden run-in and kept on well, won at Huntingdon 2m hcp (4) gd in Mar beating Swinging London (12-1) by 1/2l, 6 ran.
John Betjeman 10-3 (11-13) Led until narrowly headed approaching 3rd, pressed leader, led again and awkward 4 out, headed next, chased leader, strong challenge and carried badly left run-in, led towards finish, won at Ffos Las 2m hcp (4) hvy in Mar beating Bannow Bay Boy (12-0) by 3/4l, 5 ran.
Sambezi (FR) 6-1 (12-1) Made all, raced wide through out, going well and quickened before 2 out, soon well in command, four lengths clear when unchallenged at last, pushed out, comfortably, won at Fontwell 2m 3f hcp (5) sft in Mar beating Belgarum (11-8) by 6l, 6 ran.
Universal Secret (IRE) 6-1 (11-7) Prominent, led before 2 out, driven flat, stayed on well, won at Wincanton 1m 7f mdn (4) gd in Feb beating Tedwin Hills (11-7) by 1 1/4l, 10 ran.
Flamenco De Kerser (FR) 28-1 (11-10) Rear mid-division, hampered by faller home turn, soon beaten and pulled up before 3 out, at Exeter 2m 1f hcp (5) gd in Mar.
Western General (IRE) 5-2 (11-7) Handy, led 2 out, ridden and hard pressed last, headed flat and could not go pace of winner, kept on, 2nd of 8, 1l behind Killaloan (11-12) at Taunton 2m hcp (4) gs in Mar.
