Le Jaguar can recoup some of the sponsors' money by beating Calvic, with Shalako, Shareef and Kentford Grebe other noted rivals. Although the Paul Nicholls camp has been rather quiet of late, there is no better trainer to follow at this track and now would be a good time for the yard to bang in a few winners. The five-year-old Le Jaguar is well treated here on account of the age allowance, and he will be suited by the step up in trip today judged on the evidence so far. Third behind his stablemate Le Passing at Chepstow on his third start in Britain, the ex-French performer, successful in testing conditions in his native land, he may well have been plotted up for this as he is owned by Mark Tincknell whose company Connaught sponsors the whole card. Calvic could be the fly in the ointment as he will be suited by the slight drop back in trip after running out of steam at Wetherby. Shalako has the potential but needs to bounce back after falling at Newbury, while Shareef has a long absence to overcome. Kentford Grebe is interesting back up in trip, and it must be remembered that he was a very useful hurdler, but we shall side with Le Jaguar in the opener.
