Pen Gwen has been disappointing since been acquired from France with a variety of distances and ground conditions being tried to bring out the best in him. His breeding and French form suggests he requires soft ground to display his best. With those conditions again prevailing and tight circuits appearing to be the courses for which he has performed adequately, he is a speculative selection. Jigsaw Dancer sets the standard here but has recieved a hike in the ratings for those to victories and it is easy to see why connections have opted to turn him out under the mandatory penalty. It remains to be seen if he is in the handicappers grip but we will oppose him today, for which is his sternest test. Celtic Spirit is an unexposed sort and has to be respected on that basis. He has been beaten an aggregate of 91l on his two hurdles outings to date but was a smart performer on the flat who has the profile of one who could succeed when switched to obstacles. He was rated in the mid 80s on the level so if one was to take things literally he could be well treated. Market support for Gary Moores' charge should be noted. Miss Midnight is another that has been climbing up the ratings but has shown respectable course form and could reward each way supporters. Pen Gwen is a speculative nomination in an open contest.
