Cyclop won the Lincolnshire National at Market Rasen on Boxing Day but this looks a shade more competitive, though David Dennis’ seven-year-old is only 3lb higher and is a thorough stayer who was still travelling strongly in this 12 months ago when falling. Royal Palladium has been lightly raced in recent years but was only fifth two years ago, behind runner-up Dawson City. Barton Gift was sixth last year and is 4lb higher. Connections would have been delighted with Rathlin Rose’s run in the Welsh National and David Pipe’s gelding has been dropped 2lb since so has to go on the short-list while Themanfrom Minella got back to winning ways at Warwick last month. COURT FRONTIER is back over fences for the first time this season having disappointed when favourite over hurdles at Chepstow earlier this month. He easily beat Cyclop and Blameitalonmyroots over 3m6f at Huntingdon last season and can confirm that form, despite worse terms.
