In depth

Verdict

QUINY BOY is the pick in the opener with Murphy and Grand Article respected. David Pipe's charge appeared to appreciate the switch to a faster surface last time out and off a 7lb higher mark this afternoon; it should not be enough to stop a follow up. Murphy has ability though seems reluctant to show it more often than not. That said, he produced a smart effort behind Riverside Theatre in a Kempton bumper last year on decent ground so any return to that form would make him a serious player. Grand Article is tried in a tongue strap. Connections were keen to get Robert Thornton aboard and the gelding has shown form on a sound surface in the past. Jocheski is still a maiden under the National Hunt code though has produced his better efforts at this time of the year. Lepido was a useful middle distance horse on the flat for Luca Cumani but he has struggled to demonstrate much ability over hurdles as yet. Hampton Court has floundered on soft going this winter so he will be a decent price. At the likely odds, he makes some appeal from a yard that are in reasonable nick. Tenor De Balme put up a career best over hurdles at Newbury having previously raced over the larger obstacles in France. High Carol appears best of the rest. Quiny Boy can continue his progression up the ranks today.
