Verdict

This may be a Nicholls one-two, with Cerium taken to get the better of stablemate Hors La Loi III, and Feel The Pride the one to give the pair most to do. Cerium was put in his place by Racing Demon in the Henry VIII Novices' Chase at Sandown in December, but remains a young chaser of potential, and the decision to run here rather than return to the Esher track on Saturday can pay dividends. Paul Nicholls' five-year-old would have to race from out of the weights in the Victor Chandler in any case, and with both Albuhera and Armaturk pencilled in, today's event looks by far the best option, as at present he looks more capable of giving weight away to slightly inferior opposition rather than the other way round. Stablemate Hors La Loi III made a winning chase debut for his new yard at Taunton in December, but at the age of 11, the former Champion Hurdler does not have time on his side. Nevertheless, his class should enable him to figure, and he makes more appeal than Feel The Pride who shaped a bit better in first-time blinkers at Southwell, chasing home the in-form Green Tango. Serpentine Rock and Muhtenbar appear up against it, and the progressive Cerium is the one to beat.
