A decent novices' chase where Bonus Bridge is taken to defy top weight and score from Pittsburgh Phil and Under The Sand. The selection is a typically bold jumping chaser from the Henry Daly yard, who appears to go best when allowed to dictate. This small field will suit him, as will the minimum trip, and despite the weight if he is given another positive ride he should just about be able to hang on. Pittsburgh Phil looks likely to need bottomless ground to be at his best. Just two outings over fences so far have proved to be a learning process, and while we expect improvement again here, he will probably be a little too slow to get his nose in front. Of the remainder, Under The Sand was rated 127 over hurdles last season, and clearly has ability. However, he too has just a couple of runs over fences to go on, and it may be that he will improve for a trip in the future, and so we will go with top weight Bonus Bridge.
