In depth
Verdict
Nicky Nutjob kept on well when successful at Wetherby in October but disappointed on a soft surface at Cheltenham subsequently and Jeff Pearce's gelding may be best watched under similar conditions today in a race where it may be worth taking a chance with SIR JOHN, who gets the verdict with Screaming Brave rated the best of the rest. The selection was well held on his debut in a Lingfield bumper on the Polytrack over an inadequate 1m5f but the testing ground today should bring about improvement in Jonjo O'Neill's son of Sir Harry Lewis and he looks worth siding with on his hurdling debut. Mr Melodious showed very little in three starts on the flat as a juvenile last year when trained by Barry Hills including on his debut in the Brockelsby and is now making his belated debut for Nigel Twiston-Davies. He is far from certain to stay this far and act on the ground so looks best left out of calculations, while stable companion Corredor Sun is far from certain to go on the ground. Sheena West's Screaming Brave has shown a decent level of form in both starts over hurdles and has to be respected but a penalty for his latest success and the softer ground is a concern so preference is for Sir John.
