Verdict

TOUGH AS NAILS, who finished first past the post on the opening day of the season at the Curragh but was disqualified after hanging badly, can gain compensation. The fourth that day, Gold Lace, has since won so the form is already looking strong. Cheerful Giver wasn't far behind Gold Lace, also at the Curragh, and though held by Tough As Nails on a line through the winner is certain to improve. Boris Grigoriev was withdrawn from that latter race due to heavy conditions and makes his debut here. The Ballydoyle colt is bred for further but should have enough pace to make his presence felt though Ger Lyons' newcomer Gin Rummy has a much speedier pedigree being a half-brother to a two-year-old winner and out of a mare who was a winning sprinter.
