Fragrant Rose, a good winner on her debut at Hereford this season, is taken to defy her penalty with conditions again in her favour. The filly, by Alflora, won with more in hand than the winning margin suggests and the form of the race has already been franked by the third horse, Wild Dream. Blue Ride was a good winner of a Ludlow bumper last season, when defeating Grave Doubts. That horse has already made his mark in novice hurdles. Jockey bookings suggest that he is the pick of the Paul Nicholls-trained pair. Native Approach is also a bumper winner from a top yard and is sure to have been well schooled, but he only has form on fast ground. Village Queen has a stamina-laden pedigree but it could be significant that the Good Thyne mare is to be partnered by Richard Johnson.
