In depth

Verdict

The toughest contest of the day at Taunton and BENEDICT BAY is only a sporting choice to do the honours. Blueland and Something Gold are also fancied to go close, while Richard Johnson is an interesting jockey booking for the lightly raced Charlie Poole and his mount should not be underestimated. The last named is better off at the weights with the selection from the last time they met, so market confidence would be noteworthy. Something Gold has started to show a bit more enthusiasm of late and merits a second look in this company. As does Blueland, who will love the ground and, having posted a solid effort over course and distance earlier in the month; she will be a live danger today. However, the lightly weighted Benedict Bay is equally suited by the conditions and, as he is likely to be available at much longer odds, he looks worth a punt to small stakes here.
