Verdict

Red Society is made a cautious selection in preference to Barnards Green and Jupon Vert. Philip Hobbs' representative has won two races over hurdles round here last winter and while his backers will have been disappointed that he didn't win at Ludlow on his last racecourse start, there was enough there to suggest that his turn should come around soon. Barnards Green would take a hand in this if the ground remains on the fast side. Robert Alner is sending out plenty of winners of late and on this occasions, conditions at the overnight stage appear to suit. Jupon Vert is plenty exposed on a variety of trips and going. Having said that Ron Hodges has certainly worked the oracle with him this year and in a weak contest, he is not without some appeal. Hold up performer Angel Delight was a beaten favourite on her last start. She is generally pretty consistent at her level and this most certainly is it. Ideal Jack does not maintain his ability of some years ago and on balance a 12lb rise for a second place round here a couple of weeks ago appears harsh. Not a classic by any stretch of the imagination and it is Red Society who secures only the most tentative of votes.
