In depth

Formwatch

Miss Bertaine (IRE) Trip and going will be no problem; won last year off a mark of 104; handicapper is beginning to drop her mark and, as she's on 97 for today's race, is entitled to consideration.

Richmond Lady Excluding her rider's 7 lbs claim, she meets Miss Bertaine on identical terms to those at Kempton on Jan 29 when she was beaten 11 lengths. She's also worse off for finishing behind Miss Bertaine at Kempton around this time last year. She has won off a mark of 92, the trip and ground should be OK for her but she will have to improve a little on form to win here.

Mydante (IRE) In receipt of 14 lbs, she finished six-and-a-half lengths behind Miss Bertaine at Kempton on Jan 10 (3m0:5f,soft/good to soft) and is now 7 lbs worse off; that was her first run in two months (in the first she was well behind Sprig Muslin and is only 11 lbs better off today); she suggested ability last year but seems to have been rated accordingly; she should be OK at the trip and on the ground.

Chopins Revolution Raised 10 lbs for her win at Exeter on Jan 1 (2m6:5f,heavy)(Eileen Alanna, well behind her that day, is 10lbs better off today); steps up in trip here; can't be discounted in a run of the mill race.

Sparkling Lass Her best effort came last year when second to Kittenkat at Exeter (2m7f,heavy); her efforts since suggest she'll have to improve to be given a chance today; stays 2m7f but has only tried this far once before.

Dorans Grove Lightly-raced of late and has tried chasing; there's not too much to get worked up about in her form but the booking of Tony McCoy after a reasonable seasonal reapearance means that her chance cannot be completely written off.

Song For Jess (IRE) Absent since winning at Uttoxeter on June 15 (3m110y,good to firm, good); raised only 3 lbs for that easy win but has an absence to overcome; stays the trip and acts on soft but probably prefers better ground.

Sprig Muslin Very lightly-raced over the last two years but won a modest event off a mark of 77 at Fontwell on Nov 6(2m6f110y,heavy); now races off 82 so needs to improve for this step up to a new trip.

Just Steffi Well behind Chopin's Revolution at Exeter on Jan 1 although is now 10 lbs better off; has been chasing, stays this trip well and loves soft ground; she's on about the right mark for her level of hurdles form; acts here although her wins have all come at Newton Abbot.

Lady of The Lamp Has raced only twice since June 4 last year; beat Montagnette 4 lengths off level weights at Towcester last May (3m,soft); good jockey booked but is handicapped to the level of her form it would seem.

Eileen Alanna (IRE) She won off today's mark at Market Rasen on Nov 21 (2m5f110y,good to soft/good) but was well behind Chopin's Revolution next time; couldn't be a strong fancy.

Sparkling Dove Ran very poorly last time; won a seller off a mark of 59 last year but does not race too often; well beaten on only other attempt at this trip.

Montagnette Raised 3 lbs for winning a modest seller at Towcester on Feb 1(2m5f,heavy); beat Gemolly two-and-three-quarter lengths there and is now marginally better off because of Gemolly racing from out of the handicap; entitled to some sort of a chance at this level.

Cudlic Candyfloss Little to recommend her, even at this level.

Gemolly (IRE) Races from 11 lbs out of the handicap here and looks held by Montagnette.

Lochlass (IRE) Finished well behind Montagnette at Chepstow in December and is racing from 13 lbs out of the handicap here.
