ROCK ON RUBY can carry his namesake Walsh to success in the bumper, where Pere Blanc, Golden Chieftain and Karasenir are among others considered. The selection showed up well on debut at Newbury where he got through the soft ground well to finish fourth of 11, and some way clear of Pere Blanc in the process. The latter can come on for the experience, though it is hard to see him turning the tables on Paul Nicholls' runner, who is taken to improve and break his duck. Golden Chieftain will surely be better when stepped up in trip, having stayed on late for a taking debut at Ascot in November. He has to prove himself on this ground, but a market check is strongly advised. Karasenir has been accounted for by the useful Tetlami on both starts so far, and the latter race was Listed, so Philip Hobbs's gelding has some invaluable experience to bring to the contest and on ground that suits he is much respected. Scampi Boy does not have too much to find with Golden Chieftain on that Ascot running, so he has each-way claims, while Strumble Head will probably have to wait for other days. Rock On Ruby is the pick in the last.
