Verdict

Conditions are right for Ceresfield to take this, with Tarongo and Master Henry capable of completing for the minors. The selection put in a poor effort over course and distance last time out, but is a fair bit better with cut in the ground, and showed more like his true form when runner-up on good to soft at Cartmel on his penultimate start. This trip suits and he is only 1lb higher than his most recent winning mark, so he looks capable of getting the better of the other quartet. Tarongo looks likely to be best of the opposition. Lavinia Taylor's gelding gets plenty of weight and has performed with credit on this type of surface in the past. Arguably, he is better over 2m 4f where he has more time to get into the race, and again he may be found wanting when the tap is turned on. Of the others, topweight Master Henry was in good form in the summer and would make much more appeal on faster ground, but he is not nearly as effective on this going and with his big weight he is overlooked in favour of our choice, Ceresfield.
