Putin pops-up when in the mood which he clearly was at Lingfield last week. He has 6lb extra to cope with today, while an 11lb rise for an earlier win at Wolverhampton seemed a bit harsh on Tartan Trip at the time and that's proved to be the case judged on his placed efforts since. GO FAR won a maiden event here on his only previous start on this surface and after a couple of subsequent outings on the Polytrack, Alan Bailey's charge is taken to land this back on the Fibresand. Both Great Expectations and George Fenton looks to be treading water off their current marks.
Great Expectations 13-2 (8-11) Keen in rear, some headway over 2f out, never a factor, 10th of 14, 13l behind Piceno (8-2) at Newmarket 7f hcp 0-85 (4) sft in Nov.
George Fenton 10-1 (9-6) Dwelt, towards rear, reminders over 4f out, ridden over 1f out, kept on one pace inside final furlong, 4th of 7, 6l behind Ace Master (9-4) at Southwell 7f hcp 0-75 (5) fbs.
Tartan Trip 2-1 (9-5) Chased leaders, went 2nd over 2f out, every chance entering final furlong, kept on same pace, 2nd of 5, 4l behind Basingstoke (9-5) at Southwell 7f sell stks (6) fbs.
Go Far 9-2 (9-0) Led early, prominent, not clear run 2f out, bumped just over 1f out, soon switched left, no extra towards finish, 6th of 10, 2 1/4l behind Wilfred Pickles (9-2) at Lingfield 1m hcp 0-75 (5) pol.
Putin (IRE) 5-1 (9-0) Made all, ridden clear over 1f out, ran on well, unchallenged, won at Lingfield 6f hcp 0-65 (6) pol beating Pharoh Jake (8-12) by 1 1/2l, 9 ran.
