The booking of Jamie Spencer appears a positive aboard SHIFTING GOLD and the pair can win the finale at the expense of Diamond Surprise and Hawkspring. The gelding made all to win a handicap at the course off a mark of 58 and on that evidence, the 6lb that the assessor added seems fair though not excessive. Diamond Surprise deserved to get her head infront after a series of near misses. It will be interesting to see how My Sweet Georgia runs earlier in the card as she has many formlines related to Simon Callaghan's filly. Hawkspring has had a few names called in the past. He made virtually all to win a very poor seller with the minimum of fuss. Trueblue Wizard won a maiden at the course last December and his rating doesn't look especially helpful given that the race really hasn't worked out as anticipated. Mullitovermaurice won a claimer at Wolverhampton as a juvenile, posting Hayley Turner's hundredth winner of the year as a consequence. The gelding was well held on a previous visit to the Nottinghamshire track. Miss Christophene sunk a hotpot from the Sir Mark Prescott stable in some style. The question is as to whether the handicapper has done his sums correctly. Shifting Gold has conditions to suit and should be a tough nut to crack.
