Verdict

An awful contest and one where Docduckout can finally come good, after four abortive attempts at Lingfield. The gelding shaped with promise, particularly in his first two outings there, though he did run a bit of a stinker when upped to this trip last time. However, this slightly longer straight should help him get better organised in the race and he can confirm his early promise by delivering the goods here. Eyre O Plain Jane has also been thereabouts in sellers recently and she should again go well. However, thus far she has failed to convince that she genuinely sees out today's trip and that includes a lack-lustre effort when beaten favourite last time out. Another whose best trip has yet to be determined is Bahita. On the form she has shown, perhaps a furlong less will be her optimum, but she did shape up pretty well at Wolvehampton last time after a few months off, and so with with a bit more to come here she could be thereabouts. David Barron is the master here at Southwell and he sends out Star Sound. On his bare form you couldn't really give him much of a chance here, though he was given a blow over a mile here the other week after a break. If he too can come on for that run, then back at 7f he may also have place claims. Of the remainder Blandys makes most appeal as an each-way alternative. She ran well until weakening and picking up third place in a similar contest over course and distance earlier in the month.
