A poor maiden in which the Ian Williams-trained Alagon may be good enough to win on his British debut and is taken to score at the main expense of Maria Bonita and Carriacou. The selection failed to trouble the judge in five starts in France but is says an awful lot about the quality of the opposition that the son of Alzao is the one they all have to beat. The lack of a recent run would normally be considered a concern but Ian Williams can produce a runner fit and Alagon looks worth chancing. Maria Bonita has shown ability in claimers and has to be respected in a race as poor as this, while the ex-Irish Alexander Sapphire cannot be discounted on his first start for Peter Chapple-Hyam. Carriacou has had plenty of chances but has claims on the pick of her form, albeit over shorter than today's trip. Similar comments apply to the Derek Haydn Jones-trained Petite Colleen and of more interest may be Indian's Landing, who is less exposed than some of his rivals. Kiev has shown only signs of ability in three starts in bumpers and a bigger threat may come from Woolstone Boy, who has only had two starts so far and comes from a stable in form. Alagon would not need to retain much ability to win this though and gets the vote to open his account on his British debut.
