Verdict

Some old rogues are brought together here and the likes of Lord Lamb, Kylkenny and Court Of Appeal all look sure to attract a bit of interest from the betting market for old times sake, whereas Barking Mad will be popular for the booking of Nina Carberry alone. However, an each-way chance is taken with Keepers Knight, who handles this surface well and can represent good value this afternoon. Emily Jane Jones is an experienced rider that knows how to position her mounts to best effect on the All Weather, while Keepers Knight can do his bit by making sure he stays up with the pace. As there are several doubts about the rest, the partnership should not be underestimate today. The 5lb they receive from Barking Mad can become a vital factor as events unfold, especially as the top weight is making his debut at Southwell and needs to prove he handles the fibresand. Court Of Appeal was very highly tried when he was last seen out and that run is best forgotten. His previous form does give him claims, but there has to be the suspicion that he will need this after 205 days away from the action. Kylkenny is closely matched with Romil Star but is capable of winning that personal battle today. Even though he can be hard to predict on occasions, he can never be ruled out at this level. However, the same can be said of several of the rest in, what looks a muddling contest on paper. Therefore, a small each-way investment on Keepers Knight is recommended as he still has a bit more scope than many of the rest and his odds can reap a fair reward even if he only manages to make the frame in a very tricky race to fathom.
