        Verdict

        Rain Stops Play, Bold Marc and Bold Crusader are the shortlisted trio here, with Rain Stops Play taken to come out on top. Bold Marc won at Catterick three outings ago and has been narrowly touched off on return visits to the track twice since. He has yet to prove he handles this surface though and is handicapped on his best form so is passed over. Godolphin's Bold Crusader stepped up on a promising debut when leading home a big field in an auction maiden race at Newmarket. That was over a year ago though, and although he will have been well prepared for this belated re-appearance, he looks one of the yard's lesser lights and is taken on. With wins at Epsom and Newbury to his credit, Rain Stops Play is at the top of his game, a fact underlined by his good third off a higher mark at Newmarket last time. He runs off the same mark here and a reproduction of that effort may enable Rain Stops Play to return to the winner's enclosure.
