In depth

Verdict

The one that catches the eye here is Magic Amigo, with Alpine Special, Dance World, McQueen, Midshipman and Red Forest possibly proving to be his biggest dangers. The form of the selection's third to La Persiana in a competitive Classified Stakes race at Doncaster last time reads very well in the context of this race and, with Darryll Holland booked, the partnership looks set to go very well. Alpine Special has now been given a chance by the handicapper and, if returning to the level of his juvenile form, holds a big chance. Midshipman has gone close over course and distance in his last two runs so warrants respect, and Dance World has won over course and distance but the handicapper has not exactly been generous with his rating but, that said he should still go well. Caroubier is a curiosity in that he has won over hurdles but never beyond a mile on the Flat. In fact, all bar one of his tried beyond 10 furlongs has been disappointing, although the exception was over 11 furlongs on this surface. McQueen has won over course and distance and was staying over course and distance on his last outing, so seems primed to go well, while Red Forest has been doing well for connections recently and, while he has a career-best rating to defy if scoring, cannot be ruled out of a modest handicap. Elusive Dream hails form the Sir Mark Prescott stable, which has been laid low for much of the season with a virus. She is beautifully bred and should be well suited by today's trip but is hard to build a strong case for given her 220-day absence. Overall, though, the selection, once again, is Magic Amigo.
