made all, clear approaching 3 out, pecked last, easily
tracked leaders, went 2nd 6th to 12th, weakened 4 out
tracked winner, jumped slowly and lost place 6th, joined winner after 12th, not fluent 4 out, soon weakened
Not the most enthralling of starts to the card but all three contenders have claims on the best of their form. With Cannon McCarthy just preferred as the most experienced chaser in the line up. Of his rivals, Boardroom Dancer is open to improvement and should benefit greatly as he continues on his learning curve. However, he already needs to improve on his debut run over fences and is probably best watched just for now. Whereas Quincy Perk fared well in a weak race at Market Rasen and it would be no surprise to see him better that effort at this similarly modest level. But Cannon McCarthy has taken on much better rivals than this in the past and could be a little too wily for his two opponents this afternoon. A note of caution has to be voiced about the Simon Lewis-trained selection, as he has already had plenty of chances to get his head in front at the finish; but has so far fallen short of the mark when asked to dig deep. So plenty will depend upon the tactics employed for today. However, on all known form, Cannon McCarthy is entitled to win a race like this, even though he would not be one for a maximum stakes play.
