Verdict

Newtonian can confirm the form with Starcross Maid and Surdoue in a finale that cannot come around quick enough. Money for Exit To Luck would be interesting but his form has been modest since he arrived in Britain from Germany and he has too much to prove just now. Surdoue came into his own in Banded Stakes - winning twice over this course and distance last year. However, he finds life tough in handicap company and, as recent form leaves him with an uphill test, he needs luck on his side today. As does Starcross Maid, who was two and a half lengths adrift of the selection when they met here twelve days ago. A 7lb turnaround in the weights should bring them closer together, but Newtonian has by far a more appealing case laid out for him and gets a confident vote to round off a poor meeting on a high note.
