With half of the 10 runner field out of the handicap proper this is not as competitive as the numbers suggest and the topweight Clair Valley sets a fair standard. Ferdy Murphy's mare won nicely over a two furlong shorter trip at Wolverhampton earlier in the month on her first start for a year. She may have further improvement in her but has been raised 11lbs since. The Richard Ford-trained Hersilia has been placed off her current mark on all three starts this term so should again be thereabouts, while Bullfinch from the Richard Phillips stable should not be far away judged by his most recent effort at Newton Abbot.
