In depth

Verdict

Old Romney can make the journey from Middleham pay off at the expense of So Sweet, Garrya and Perfect Courtesy. Old Romney finished a very commendable fourth to the odds-on Kalgoorlie in a hot maiden at Newmarket recently, and on that showing will take all the beating here. Mark Johnston's colt runs here in preference to what looks a harder contest at Ascot at the weekend, and should safely have this wrapped up. So Sweet has by all accounts been working well at home, and this full-sister to Crosspeace may give a good account without being good enough. The same comment applies to Garrya who is one of two Richard Hannon challengers, and is the mount of Ryan Moore. Perfect Courtesy finished a few lengths behind the selection at Newmarket and this Vodafone Derby entry will be one to follow when upped in trip next year. Old Romney has leading claims though and will be a worthy favourite.
