This is a competitive opener to get us underway and Cobo Bay, Unbreak My Heart and Commander Cave llok the principals, with Cobo Bay taken to come out on top. Commander Cave has won his last two starts and is clearly progressive. This represents a step up in grade, and though his two wins have come on an all weather surface, the form looks solid, as the horse he beat last time finished second in a good race on Tuesday. Unbreak My Heart possesses a similar profile as he won his final two starts last season. However, Roger Charlton is yet to start firing in the winners, and he may be best watched. Cobo Bay has taken advantage of a lenient handicap mark to win four of his last five races, and he took a good Ripon handicap last time in emphatic style. He carries a penalty here, but Cobo Bay can shrug that off and win again.
