A number of powerful Newmarket stables are represented in this maiden won last year by champion miler Palace Pier and many of the leading fancies have a favourable draw among the low numbers. Maximal was fractious before the start of his debut at Newbury but was only beaten a nose in a race that’s already produced a few winners. One Ruler was badly hampered leaving the stalls when favourite here last month so did well to finish second and the Godolphin colt looks a threat to all but MOTATAABEQ, who runs in the same colours, was also an eye-catcher at Ascot when needing the experience so he gets a tentative vote. Mithras is the foal to race of a French 1000 Guineas runner-up and could be the pick of the newcomers.
