Verdict

Alec Stewart's team have hit form and Lafi is anticipated to go well ahead of hardened veterans Bouncing Bowdler, Baldour and Shiny. The Indian Ridge colt beat little of account in a Pontefract maiden in August last year but the trainer is a shrewd cookie when it comes to placing his horses and the BHB rating of 79 leaves a lot to play with. The trainer has sent out three winners within the last seven days and this could well add to the tally. Bouncing Bowdler hails from a stable in good nick and he at least has been kept on the go with a spell in Dubai over the winter. He was disappointing on a return to British action at Leicester but a more strongly run race will suit today. Baldour was outpaced at Brighton a couple of weeks ago but that track is known for its quirks. He is better judged on a third in a decent Goodwood handicap to Grizedale in May. The booking of Mick Kinane is certainly a positive. Shiny drops in class after finishing fourth in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes. Clive Brittain's older horses have been in great order this term but this filly is not known to be particularly resolute in a finish. Irony was a very decent two-year-old for Jamie Osborne. She has a long losing run to defeat here and a switch to Andrew Balding has shown no signs of arresting that decline. Flint River has been winning in lesser grade than this while Kareeb is watched in the market for any clues.
