In this maiden we give the nod to The Composer ahead of possibly Plea Bargain and Wotchalike but keep a close eye on the betting too. The selection took a while for the penny to drop on his Kempton debut but, once it did, he ran on really well to finish fourth. If he progresses from that run he has to hold a chance here in what might be just a run-of-the-mill maiden for the time of year. Looking at the others and Barbirolli is well-related and, along with his stablemates, Beekeeper's half-brother Mt Desert and the interesting Plea Bargain, and the likes of Mick Channon's Marhaba Million, Andrew Balding's Palace Walk, and Geoff Wragg's Royal Mougins, should all be watched in the betting. Another to consider is Wotchalike, who ran well over course and distance on soft last time but that probably was not a strong contest. However, as we say The Composer ran on really well on his Kempton debut once the penny dropped and, unless the market vibes flag up a Gosden runner - he trained the winner at Kempton that day so will have a good line on the form - we will take him to build on that and score today.
