      Verdict

The Night Watch opened his account at Wolverhampton when upped to today’s trip and should be in the mix once again. But a 7lb penalty may prove beyond him up against REAL SMOOTH, who just missed out over 7f at Newmarket in November with a subsequent winner behind and has undergone wind surgery since. The latter is also preferred to Voltaic, placed on a couple of occasions last term, while Gambon made a promising start over 6f at Ascot only to disappoint at the same track last time and has been gelded subsequently. Recondite cost E150,000 while fellow newcomers Immoral and After John are both related to several winners.
