      Verdict

      Chancery likes the ground and has no problems with the trip so it was a bit disappointing when he was brushed aside by Sandro Botticelli at Doncaster after travelling well throughout. He may just have needed the run and will attract support but NOBLE GIFT is a smart performer at this level on soft going as he showed at Leicester in October. The six-year-old reappeared with a superb effort in a Listed contest at Kempton last month and looks the one to beat. Notarised counted Haydock's lucrative Old Newton Cup amongst last year's four victories and won over two miles at Chelmsford in March, when Pearl Castle was behind, so a strong gallop will play to his strengths. Indy has never run over the trip and his last run was over 7f but Lycidas appears to need further than this.
