In depth

Verdict

The manner in which Michael's Pride gained success at Redcar the other day suggests that she can defy a penalty and add to that here, with The Pen, William Tell and Vale De Lobo likely to fight out the minors. Michael's Pride had looked pretty well exposed before that last outing, but trip and ground clearly suited, in fact 12 furlongs might even bring out her best, but she stayed on in the manner of a filly who had really found her feet, and she can follow-up. The Pen is sent out by Patrick Haslam, who notched up a big-priced winner here on Thursday. This filly was gradually stepped up in trip last season, and the same happens again here. She is not without ability and any money for her will probably be significant. Vale De Lobo should certainly be better for going further here, but she has never raced on ground this fast and has to prove she can handle it, and the same can be said of William Tell, who may prove to be a 'Lone Ranger' from his wide draw on the far side, though he will get the trip. But Michael's Pride looked happier than ever at Redcar and can underline her wellbeing with another win here.
