In depth
Verdict
Estiqraar has an obvious chance in the finale and is hard to oppose in a race where the main dangers look to be Chronomatic and Eliminator. The last mentioned has claims on the pick of his turf form last season but has disappointed in two starts on sand this winter so he may be best watched. James Bethell's Markington has shown gradual improvement on sand and should do better now that he races on turf for the first time but the son of Medicean would probably prefer a faster surface. Methusaleh is becoming a little exposed but still makes more appeal than stablemates Every Inch and Celtic Jig, who both make their racecourse debuts today. The Mark Tompkins-trained Chronomatic has run some decent races in defeat and is entitled to respect but preference is for Estiqraar. John Dunlop's colt has shown a similar level of form in both his outings so far and a reproduction should suffice in this company on ground that suits.
