Triple Shadow should go well now dropped back to five furlongs with Jamie Spencer up however Welcome Approach is given the vote ahead of Poppy's Rose and Hotham. The selection has only won twice in 32 starts but is ultra-consistent and is suited by this demanding five furlongs. He has a fair draw in seven and with the ground to suit, he should go very close. Poppy's Rose is well drawn and Ian McInnes' filly should better her recent fifth as she attempts five furlongs for the first time. She won't mind if the rain comes, a comment which also applies to Triple Shadow. Brut needs to bounce back from a poor show last time out, whilst old-timer Paddywhack should run his normal game race but is unlikely to win. Hotham warrants respect as a course and distance winner and will like the ground as it stands, and whilst College Land Boy is unexposed and on a lowly mark for his handicap debut, we are happy to return to Welcome Approach as the nomination.
