Charlie Fellowes’ handicappers have been carrying all before them and MANKAYAN contributed to the tally in a big field at Doncaster last month. He then chased home a back-to-form Look Closely at Ascot with the winner franking the form last week. Despite another 3lb rise, the top weight will be hard to beat. Matewan is a model of consistency who handles all types of going but the handicapper probably has his measure at present. Mr Carpenter showed a big improvement to score at 100/1 at York while Damage Control is back in the right grade. Kitten's Dream handled the step up in distance at Beverley but this is a much tougher assignment.
Mankayan (IRE) 4-1 (9-8) Edged right start, chased leader, led 9f out, headed 2f out, held inside final furlong, stayed on, 2nd of 10, 2l behind Look Closely (9-12) at Ascot 1m 4f hcp (3) gf in Jul.
