    Verdict

    A smart handicapper for Luca Cumani, Banksea was purchased by Godolphin at the end of last year but has something to prove over 1m4f having run poorly at York last month when behind third-placed CONTANGO. A progressive three-year-old last term, Andrew Balding’s charge looks capable of scoring off his current mark on that form and gets the nod ahead of Manjaam. The latter won a lower grade contest over today’s trip at York last time and is 4lb higher today while Final hasn’t raced since last summer and Baydar remains resolutely out of sorts. My Reward needs further than this.

    Contango (IRE) 15-2 (8-13) Restless in stalls and slowly into stride, raced keenly, held up in last pair, headway over 2f out, went 3rd inside final 2f, no chance with leading duo, 3rd of 7, 1 3/4l behind Hamada (8-12) at York 1m 4f hcp (2) gf in May.

    Final 10-1 (9-2) Dwelt, in rear, headway on inside over 1f out, not clear run and switched right well inside final furlong, ran on, never going pace to reach leaders, 8th of 14, 2 1/4l behind Not So Sleepy (9-8) at Epsom 1m 2f hcp (2) gd in Jun.
