      Verdict

A trappy handicap where the market should offer most clues as to fitness and in the absence of that information, Capable Guest is recommended ahead of Wind Star, Tufton and Flipando. Mick Channon's charge ran creditably in the Lincoln despite the vagaries of a poor draw and ground that wouldn't suit, and while winning is not something that has come easy in the past, he can make racefitness count in a race where plenty do not have such a luxury. Wind Star was progressive last term and cannily campaigned around the gaff tracks. This assignment looks tougher than those in the past so improvement over the winter will be necessary to score here. Tufton ran a stormer at Kempton before getting collared inside the post. A drop back to eight furlongs will play to his strengths if he can adapt to racing on the turf. Flipando is a likeable enough individual who should handle the prevailing going. It is somewhat worrying that he has never previously obliged before July in the past. Hold up performer, Fajr can be expected to run on when others have cried enough. Of the remainder, Ballinteni has to be respected given David Simcock's record with his limited stock. The entire showed little for Godolphin and could have improved for more personal handling. Go Tech is far from consistent but could go well at a price given Tim Easterby's recent form. A fair race but plenty of imponderables for punters to puzzle over and we side with racefitness in the form of Capable Guest.
