        Verdict

        Though restricted to amateur riders, this is very competitive with three of the runners winners last time. Of that trio, Dogged is preferred to fellow hat-trick seeker Dandy's Angel and The New Marwan. Eireann Cagney partners the latter and is one of only two jockeys who can’t claim an allowance. The other is William Easterby but his mount Contrast has something to find with Dogged and JUST HISS on Beverley running. The latter looks best in at the weights today.

        Thomas Cranmer (USA) 12-1 (8-13) Led, headed after first furlong but remained close up, pressed leader entering final two furlongs, soon no extra, weakened and dropped to sixth inside final 110 yards, 6th of 7, 2 3/4l behind Purple Ice (9-8) at Newcastle 1m 2f hcp (6) pol in May.

        Toscan Genius (FR) 28-1 (9-10) Chased leaders, ridden along over 3f out, soon beaten, 10th of 13, 23 3/4l behind Competition (10-0) at Leicester 1m 4f stks (5) gs in May.
