It was not a particularly good race that RED CAPE won at Catterick last week but Ruth Carr's gelding could hardly have won with any more ease and he is hard to oppose despite the penalty and gets the vote ahead of Swinbrook and Mark of Meydan. The Michael Dods-trained gelding is less exposed than most of these after just four starts and made a pleasing start to his handicap career when a close up fifth at Newcastle; he has every chance if able to build on that effort. Azure Mist lacks a run this term but Mark Tompkins has his string going reasonably well so he cannot be discounted. Pat Eddery's Sam's Cross ran well in defeat at Goodwood on Friday and would have every chance if able to reproduce a similar level of form so quickly but a bigger threat is likely to come from Dickie Le Davoir, who has run well in his last two starts having been given a chance by the handicapper and he has to be strongly considered. Alan Swinbank's Stellarina showed improved form for his first start in a handicap at Warwick last month and he has strong claims along with Richard Fahey's Swinbrook, who has been running well in sellers and claimers of late. It is though hard to get away from Ruth Carr's Red Cape, who can follow up his recent win at Catterick.
