In depth

Verdict

Buckby Lane looks hard to oppose in a weak-looking contest. The seven-year-old ran well in defeat last time out at this track late last month behind Dancing Bay and provided he stays on his feet should open his account over hurdles. One drawback is the fact he has run twice on heavy ground in the past and on both times failed to complete. His main danger looks to be Phar City who is the most experienced in the field and although never really threatening in his races to date has shown enough ability to suggest he could win a race at this level. An outsider to consider could be the once-raced Irish Gold who ran a promising race behind St Pirran at Exeter in November 2000 and providing he is race fit could run a big race especially if there is market support.
