An interesting maiden hurdle and MURPHY who was last seen contesting the Grade 1 Champion Bumper at the Punchestown Festival looks the one to beat providing he takes to the jumping game; Tuscar Rock who has the benefit of jumping experience looks the main danger while Charlie Mann introduces a French all-weather winner in Wendel. A stoutly bred NH sort, not surprisingly Murphy was outclassed at Punchestown in what looked a quality renewal of that event but previous to that he finished a good second at Haydock on what was his first run for over ten months. He did race rather keenly in that event possibly owing to freshness but the form has worked out well with the winner subsequently scoring in a winners bumper while the third looks a smart novice hurdling prospect judged on his recent Cheltenham success. Tuscar Rock was beginning to look exposed last season as in seven outings he rarely looked as if he would win. Two miles around here one would think could be on the sharp side. Charlie Mann has his string in fine heart during these early stages of the NH season and if Wendel attracts support it should be noted. It is difficult to get a handle on what he actually achieved when scoring at Deauville in a four runner race but the second has not troubled the judge in three starts since which is hardly encouraging. Safari Journey's jumping has left him down on his first two starts. His breeding does suggest he would have trouble seeing out the two mile trip and that might well be what is contributing to his mistakes in the closing stages of his races. Kerayasi stayed on to take fifth spot in a lady riders contest nine days ago and if he attracted cash beforehand it would make him of some interest but Murphy looks the one to beat.
