Toulouse-Lautrec can land the day's feature race at the expense of Le Jaguar, Midnight Gunner, Dunbrody Miller and Brave Spirit. Toulouse-Lautrec was successful over the course and distance 12 months ago and went on to finish runner-up in the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter, so his stamina is not in the slightest doubt. Second in the Devon National on only his second run back, he is taken to defy what on paper looks a high enough handicap mark at present. Le Jaguar kept on well when scoring at Ludlow and is young enough to make a name for himself in the staying department, so should be kept on the short-list given his trainer's record with this type, and remember, Paul Nicholls has already collected the Welsh National recently. Midnight Gunner was pulled out of a race at Warwick on Saturday to wait for this, but his absence since October is a worry, while Dunbrody Miller was going well when falling at Doncaster last time and gets weight from the rest. Brave Spirit was only just touched off by Willie John Daly in an eventful Listed affair at Sandown last time and is sure to be in the thick of the action again, while Kausse de Thaix is better than his latest Newbury run indicates, and is another that cannot be left out of calculations entirely. Toulouse-Lautrec is a model of consistency though, and gets the vote.
