Green Zone was due to run here yesterday but Lisa Harrison’s course specialist would have a chance in a race like this if turning up. Tayzar was consistent enough last season while Grey Diamond has joined last year’s winning stable having only raced once before in a handicap. Goldencard is edging towards a competitive mark and is worth a market check but Lucinda Russell’s pair, Deepsand and Mint Gold, are returning from a lay-off. BIRCH VALE was unlucky not to follow up an earlier Hexham win at Cartmel in July as his saddle slipped when he was in front jumping the last. He could have done without a 3lb rise but Brian Hughes is back on board having already won twice on the seven-year-old.
Grey Diamond (FR) 7-4 (11-6) Took keen hold, led, tended to jump right, headed 2 out, ridden and no chance with winner before last, lost 2nd post, 3rd of 8, 12l behind West Coast Flyer (11-0) at Ffos Las 2m (4) gd in May.
Tayzar 9-2 (11-0) In rear, blundered 1st, never dangerous, 3rd of 8, 21 3/4l behind Ascot De Bruyere (11-2) at Newcastle 2m 4f hcp (3) gs in Feb.
Bestiarius (IRE) 5-2 (10-12) Held up mid-division, headway 3 out, went 3rd from 2 out, one pace, 3rd of 11, 5 1/4l behind Coole Hall (10-12) at Kelso 2m 5f (4) gd in Oct.
Birch Vale (IRE) 9-2 (11-8) Jumped right, led, ridden and 2 lengths ahead when swerved right and unseated rider last, at Cartmel 2m 1f hcp (4) sft in Jul.
Mint Gold (IRE) 20-1 (11-12) Held up, pushed along and good headway after 2 out, ridden approaching last, one pace, 3rd of 9, 15 1/2l behind Saint Freule (11-12) at Hexham 2m hcp (4) gs in Mar.
Deepsand (IRE) 33-1 (12-3) Held up and behind, headway after 3 out, soon ridden and hung left, kept on same pace flat, 3rd of 11, 4l behind Tim Rocco (11-11) at Newcastle 2m hcp (4) gs in Mar.
Camile (IRE) 12-1 (11-10) Never better than mid-division, behind from 4th, tailed off, last of 12, dist behind Wise Coco (10-0) at Perth 2m hcp (4) sft in Sep.
Green Zone (IRE) 8-1 (11-1) Held up behind, headway on outside when left 4th after 8th, ridden after 2 out, stayed on to take 3rd before last, no chance with clear pair, 3rd of 7, 9 1/4l behind Holy Motivation (11-3) at Perth 3m hcp (4) gs in Sep.
Goldencard (IRE) 11-2 (12-3) Mid-division, ridden to chase leaders after 3 out, kept on same pace, never able to get on terms, 6th of 15, 3 1/2l behind Outcrop (11-10) at Bangor-on-Dee 2m 1f hcp (4) gd in Aug.
Zamarkhan (FR) 33-1 (11-11) Chased leaders, weakened after 3 out, pulled up before 2 out, at Perth 2m hcp (4) gd in Jul.
