BENNY THE PILER is taken to follow-up his win at Uttoxeter at the expense of The Great Alfie and Oscar Glory. He has been handed a 7lb rise for that convincing success which was just the second of his career. That does raise doubts about the prospect of him following up but a more pertinent fact is that it was his first start for a new yard and it could be that they've found the key to him and he's still feasibly handicapped on his best form. The Great Alfie has been absent from the track for some time now but fitness is rarely an issue for runners from this yard. He's on a decent mark, the yard has a good record in this race and he could go close if retaining his ability. Oscar Glory reverts to hurdling having got the better of Kells Castle at Bangor. He has a 6lb higher mark to overcome as well but wears cheekpieces for the first time, has a nice racing weight and seems well served by the prevailing conditions. Crock Crildrom hasn't achieved a great deal but needs a market check on debut for a new trainer whilst Solway Minstrel has produced some consistent efforts this summer but preference is for Benny The Piler.
