In depth

Verdict

General Ledger is taken on with Midas with Valerius another to have a look at. The selection is from a useful jumping family and made a more than satisfactory debut when staying on into second behind the decent Raysrock on soft ground at Perth. His ability to handle fast ground has to be taken on trust but he should have improved for his initial experience and gets the vote. General Ledger may well improve for the fitting of blinkers and his form entitles him to win this race if they have the desired effect. His recent runs have just given the impression that he's lost his way a little though and he was readily outpaced over this course and distance last time so there are reasons enough to take him on. Valerius was well held on his hurdling bow but it would be no surprise to see him post an improved showing; the selection, though, is Midas.
