If this contest had been run over a month ago then APACHEE PRINCE wouldn't have rated a mention but his latest effort when a close-up third to Vesperal Dream and No Substitute represented a dramatic shift in the right direction for the Whillans gelding. Mounting a strong late challenge, he came home to real effect and a similar performance here would see him pose a major threat to the two likely market leaders. This will tell us if that represented a one-off performance or not but he's worth taking a chance with, especially as Alan King's runner-up that day has since absolutely hacked up at Uttoxeter. Handmaid got the better of Never Never when the pair clashed at Bangor and there seems no obvious reason to believe that placings wont be confirmed here with Peter Bowen's mare looking the main danger.
