Lord Napier was due to return from a break in the 2.20 here yesterday but would certainly have a chance in a race like this on last season’s form. In his possible absence, however, we’ll take AMALFI DOUG (NAP), who had a race named in his honour on yesterday’s card, to record a seventh course victory as he had another track specialist, Boy's On Tour, well behind here in July. Red Giant has also won around here but is out of form so Dead Right, who goes well fresh, looks a bigger danger.
Dead Right 16-1 (11-0) Tracked leaders, not fluent 13th, weakened before 3 out, last of 13, dist behind One More Fleurie (10-12) at Ayr 3m hcp (2) gd in Apr.
Amalfi Doug (FR) 11-4 (11-12) Chased leaders in 3rd, pushed along well over 3 out in 4th, kept on into 3rd under 2 out, ran on same pace and held after last, 3rd of 5, 17 1/4l behind Get Out The Gate (11-9) at Perth 3m hcp (3) gd in Jul.
Red Giant (IRE) 11-1 (11-12) Led, headed 10th, led before next, headed 12th, no impression on winner from 3 out, lost 2nd and weakened from next, 6th of 7, 29l behind Mr Mafia (11-6) at Market Rasen 3m hcp (4) gd in Aug.
Boy's On Tour (IRE) 9-1 (10-7) In rear, not fluent 3rd, closed 10th, outpaced after next, well beaten from 4 out, 5th of 7, 21 1/4l behind Amalfi Doug (11-6) at Perth 2m 4f hcp (3) sft in Jul.
Lord Napier (IRE) 9-1 (11-11) Held up towards rear, not fluent 2nd, pushed along after 9th, alone stands side 3 out, soon weakened, last of 8, dist behind Jarveys Plate (11-12) at Newbury 3m hcp (2) gs in Mar.
