Swagger Stick showed improved form for the step up to a mile at Yarmouth last time and, with the longer trip today to suit, he should be too good for his main rivals Xpressions and Hunting Pink. The selection, who is trained by John Dunlop, had shown only a modicum of ability in three maidens but improved dramatically for the longer distance on his nursery debut at Yarmouth, staying on strongly to lead close home and beat Tardis by a neck. The runner-up has run well again since in similar company so the form is solid and, being stoutly-bred by Cozzene out of an Affirmed winner, Swagger Stick should improve further for the extra two furlongs. Richard Fahey's Xpressions created a favourable impression when winning an Ayr seller last time but may want a softer surface. A bigger threat may be Hunting Pink, who tackles further than seven furlongs for the first time and may improve for the longer distance. Infidelity is a consistent performer in this grade but tends to find at least one too good and is likely to do so again and of more interest could be the Michael Dods-trained Spring Breeze, who lost no caste in defeat behind Good To Go on his debut in this grade last time. The booking of top apprentice Lisa Jones by Pat Haslam for Abrogate takes the eye but Swagger Stick has solid claims and gets the vote.
