Verdict

GUNDAROO sets a good standard from those with experience and, as the likes of Yurituni and In The Slips don't appear to be anything special, John Dunlop's filly is expected to hold the aces over debutantes Weeping Willow and Bintalwaadi. The selection - a daughter of leading sire Oasis Dream - made good progress from her debut when she finished second in a maiden here earlier this month. Nabbed in the shadow of the post on that occasion, Gundaroo did very little wrong and, as that experience of a battle can only have helped her along, it would be no surprise to see Shane Kelly employ slightly more patient tactics in the saddle aboard her today. Yurituni looks to be of ordinary ability and already has improvement to find, while In The Slips was very slowly into stride on her debut and was never a factor as a result. She may be better for the run, though. So a careful monitoring of the betting is advised. Bintalwaadi is bred to get a little further in time, so it would hardly be a disaster if she fell short of the mark this afternoon. Similar comments apply with Weeping Willow, whose broad-minded trainer always has the bigger picture in mind with debutantes. Therefore, with all things considered Gundaroo looks the safest option for the time being.
